7) Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives.

 

(a) The Ivy Tech State College Job Fair, April 10, 2004

Sarkes Tarzian Bloomington Sales Manager and Controller represented the

employment unit at the Ivy Tech State College Job Fair on April 10, 2004, from

10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in Bloomington. Students stopped at Sarkes Tarzian

Bloomington's display table and discussed career opportunities in broadcasting

and internship opportunities.

 

(b) Indiana Broadcaster's Association Black Expo Employment Opportunity

Fair, July 15, 2004

Sarkes Tarzian Bloomington supported the Indiana Black Expo Employment

Opportunity Fair by providing a fee of $100 and running on-air announcements

promoting the event the week prior to the event. In addition, Sarkes Tarzian

Bloomington personnel, including the General Manager and Sales Manager,

attended the event on July 15, 2004, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., presenting

information about employment opportunities in the broadcast and electronic

media industries and accepting applications for Sarkes Tarzian Bloomington job

openings.

 

(c) The 2004 Indiana Broadcaster's Association Scholarship Program

Sarkes Tarzian Bloomington was a distribution point for applications for the

Indiana Broadcasting Association's 2005 scholarship program. It also ran public

service announcements on its stations from January 15, 2005 through March 15,

2005 . Sarkes Tarzian Bloomington participated in the selection of the

scholarship recipients in both the high school and college categories, by

reviewing applications and making recommendations. In addition, Sarkes

Tarzian Bloomington contributed $250 to the scholarship fund.

 

(d) Internship Program

Sarkes Tarzian Bloomington regularly works with local high schools and

universities state wide to provide formal internship opportunities to students

interested in the broadcast industry. The internships typically last one semester.

To qualify, students are interviewed by members of the staff for availability and

interest. All interns must earn course credit for their participation.

The interns observe and assist in the programming, promotions, sales, and

marketing departments, gaining exposure to the skills necessary for a career in

the broadcast industry. Station personnel, including the WTTS Program

Director, Music Director and Promotions Director and WTTS/WGCL Creative

Services Director, supervise the interns, evaluating their performance and

reporting back to their respective schools.

During the reporting period, Sarkes Tarzian Bloomington had approximately

thirty interns. The interns came from a number of schools, including Indiana

University - Bloomington campus, Ivy Tech State College - Bloomington

campus, Bloomington High School South, Butler University, Ball State

University, Indiana University-Purdue University - Indianapolis, and University

of Indianapolis.
